Beard Growing Contest

This is the 7th year of the Donegal Beard growing contest. The contest begins on January 1st when all the men are clean shaven at the Sportsman’s Barber Shop on State Street. The contest is judged at the Irish Festival on Friday night. The men are judged on color of beard, length, fullness, texture and if it is a true Donegal. They are also judged on most colorful, best accessorized (dress the part and win a prize) and one of the favorites People’s Choice.

Tomorrow men from across the North Country will shave in preparation for the Judging March 11th for the title of the 2016 Donegal King of Beards. Below is a video of last years shave off. Ask yourself this one question…Do you have what it takes to be the king? If so come down to the Sportsman's Barber Shop at noonish tomorrow, get free shave and your off to the races. If you're not able to get to the shave big thing! Just shave sometime between Jan 1st and March 11th, Send us a picture of your shaven mug with a news paper,, WWNY or any other website showing it was taken sometime after Jan 1st, email that ( picture with your contact info and then off to the races!
